Changes Coming to How you dial calls on your Landline Telephone:
The purpose of this letter is to remind you of changes coming to how you dial calls on your landline telephone. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is working to adopt a new three-digit number (9-8-8) for the National Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Crisis Lifeline. This change will be fully implemented on July 16, 2022.
You should be aware that the new dialing pattern, which is 1 + area code + 7-digỉt number, is already working. In October of last year, a recording was introduced Instructing you to dial 11 digits to complete calls.
We know it is cumbersome to dial 11 digits to reach your neighbor, but the goal of implementing 9-8-8 to prevent a suicide is honorable and just. The good news is that local calls will still be free, even if it feels like you are dialing long distance.
This letter is the second notice we told you would be coming back in March. The FCC is going forward with the 988 endeavor and it is our responsibility to keep you informed. If you have any questions about 11-digit dialing from your landline telephone please give US a call or visit our website.
